This Parent + Child program is for the whole family: weed, plant, harvest, collect eggs and ENJOY! Led by experienced Waldorf educators, the morning follows a gentle rhythm of farm chores, artistic activity, circle time, a hearty, healthy snack and storytelling. Children must be accompanied by a caregiver to attend.

This program is exclusively outdoors, rain or shine. In the case of extremely inclement weather, camp will be cancelled. Parents will be notified by email by 7.30 AM if camp needs to be cancelled for the day due to weather.


Payment in full is required upon enrollment. If enrollment is cancelled before May 1, tuition will be refunded, less a $250 administrative fee. There  are  no refunds if enrollment is cancelled after May 1 or if your child is withdrawn, expelled, suspended or does  not attend Harbor Waldorf’s summer programs for any reason. No refunds will be granted due to sickness  or other absence.

The program is designed to offer families time and space to engage in the life of the farm, together. This means working in the fields, harvesting, weeding and perhaps planting, feeding the goats and chickens, and collecting chicken eggs. There is also a creative, artistic component to the morning. Some children will actively participate in our activities, others will be content to observe. Either is fine, and both are participatory in their own ways.

Additionally, this program offers a glimpse into Waldorf education: the tone and gesture of our teacher, our way of relating to our activities and each other. If you have any questions about this, please ask. We love to talk about our work!

Below, are some details that will be helpful to orienting yourself to the farm, and our program.

LOCATION - 1 Hog Creek Lane: The property is on the corner of Springs Fireplace Road and Hogs Creek Lane. Nearby is a Hogs Creek Road- so be sure to put Hog Creek LANE into your GPS to find us. Turn down Hogs Creek Lane and we’re the first driveway on the right.

PARKING: Park on the right hand side of the driveway, only. Our camp is also the home of Oliver and Max Ryan, who very generously share the farm portion of their home with us. Stick around the farm and camp area, and please do not wander further.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION (all times are approximate)

9.30 Arrival: Free time to work in the field, play in the camp area, help with snack prep or engage in an artistic activity

10.15 Circle time & puppet show

10.30 Snack time, followed by washing dishes and clean up

10.50 Wash dishes, clean up + free play

11.15 Feed the goats + chickens, collect chicken eggs

11.30 Goodbye circle

Meggan Gill currently serves as the Parent + Child teacher at the Brooklyn Waldorf School. Her previous experience is as a Waldorf Kindergarten teacher. She can be reached at, 917.741.6649

Maggie Touchette worked as a Waldorf kindergarten teacher for eight years prior to her current position as Nursery Teacher and administrator at Harbor Waldorf School. Maggie can be reached at or 518.265.9423.

BEES: This working farm includes beehives, located a safe distance away from the area we will be inhabiting and visiting. As a precaution, however, we recommend avoiding fragrant shampoos and lotions. If your child has an allergy to bees, please speak with me before the start of camp.

TICKS: The area has been mowed and sprayed monthly with an essential tick repellant. Please spray your child before coming to camp in the morning. In addition- please be sure to check your child thoroughly at the end of each morning!

SNACK MENU: Most central to snack time will be foods from the farm, but we also serve accompaniments to this. These ingredients are organic, to the best of our ability. Water is available throughout the day.

Unless your child has a food allergy, and you have discussed this with Maggie, please do not bring food from home to the camp.*If your child has food allergies, please contact the camp director prior to your child’s first day, and we can work together to make a plan for your child.

Our snack will be: Quinoa, salad with avocado, cheese, melon and whatever produce is available on the farm each day.

WEATHER: Our camp is exclusively outdoors and enjoys both full sun, as well as plentiful shade under many trees. If the weather is rainy, please come prepared to enjoy some time outdoors in the rain- rain boots, light rain jacket (and rain pants if you have them!)

In case of extreme weather, you will be notified by email by 7 AM that camp is cancelled. Make-up days may be scheduled, in that case.

WHAT TO BRING: Please note that that camp can be a messy place, and as we explore the farm and tend to the land. Be prepared that we will encourage your child’s hands-on sensory experience. Please come to camp in clothing that can get muddy, and pack a bag that includes:

a change of clothes

a hat

a towel

a water bottle

rain gear (when necessary)
